So you finally found a way to buy some bitcoin and you are thinking to yourself “how do I actually spend these bitcoin things? Please note that though it is attractive that we, who enjoy the luxuries of the internet / computers etc are actively looking to utilize the benefits of this revolutionary technology. The world’s biggest necessity is helping to spread adoption to the unbanked or as Andreas Antonopoulos says “The other 6 billion”. So what real value does a bitcoin have in the real world, what can I actually buy? Before we dive into what you can buy lets look at some of the major companies which have recently jumped on board the ‘We accept bitcoin’ band wagon:
- DISH Networkdownload (1)
- Air Baltic
- REEDS Jewelers
- Holiday Inn
- Shopify.com (Over 70,000 online stores)
- Chicago Sun-Times
Just to name a few of the companies which hopped on board recently! There are literally thousands of stores / hotels / market places where you can and shop with bitcoin!
Candy0The other day I was at a restaurant with a friend and he asked the owner “Do you accept bitcoin?” and boom… Meal paid for in BTC (For the people who say bitcoin can’t buy food)
2014 has been a busy year on the bitcoin calendar for merchant adoption and the year is far from over – we heard some whispers of online giant Ebay and some of its subsidiaries looking to make a move as well
When you have actually used bitcoin in a real world scenario and see how easy and stress free it is, you really don’t want to go back to these cumbersome payment methods which restrict and hassle you. Here is a pretty funny way to look at it! When you walk into a store and you buy some food, snacks, milk and an entire suit case of skittles (because you like skittles.. deal with it.) Does the cashier look at you and say “OK Sir may I please have three forms of ID in 300DPI 800×600 resolution format as well as a bank statement and at least one recent utility bill.” No… the cashier doesn’t lol.. I hate to laugh but when you actually look at it in context it is really quite humorous!
1393205995172On the other hand you go to a site which accepts bitcoin, input your email address and send the coin to the address… Boom… What is tiresome is the government trying to instill regulations which defeat the purpose of this new paradigm, while hiding it under the most ridiculous of all reasons… “We want to protect the consumer.” What are you really telling me here.. When Countless passwords, ENDLESS Identity theft and TONS of credit card information are stolen/miss-used every day from the same vendor who is using this archaic law set forth by the dinosaur government and its totalitarian regime.
What the New York government is currently doing – is the equivalent of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.. You don’t take the benefits of a new technology and try to force it backwards into an old paradigm, imagine forcing the internet to work on paper. “Yeah this internet thing sounds great but the only way it works is if the mailman sends my messages for me.”
With all of the new vendors popping up on a daily basis from the small store owner in Patagonia, Argentina all the way to Africa! The year 2014 will usher in some nice movement for the adoption of bitcoin and we here at The Bitcoin Movement will help do out part! We have only now started spreading to the unbanked of the world through some interesting SMS applications (but that is another topic for another day.)
download (2)As public awareness continues, large companies start to notice their competitors have entered the ‘We accept bitcoin’ phase and the company employees think “Hell if the company accepts it maybe I should buy some Bits.”
So to sum it all up, pizza (inside joke), alpaca socks (inside joke), food, real estate, education, porn, cars, clothes, ISLANDS, motor cycles, marine accessories, computers, electronics, jewelry, games, office supplies, FREEDOM.. shit sorry… wrong thread.. etc etc…
We will start to see more and more main stream occur and we will look back at 2014 as the year that magic internet money became a little more ‘real’
Happy Bitcoining! (Heard this one from a new person we were teaching) – someone go add it to urbandictionary.com lol… Bitcoining… *Scratches chin thoughtfully* .. The act of spending bitcoin? lol
